Driftwood Point Association (DPA)
Monthly Board Meeting - January 8, 2007
Call To Order:
The January 2007 DPA Community Board Meeting was held at Lake Tapps Elementary
and was called to order by President Joe Muscarnera at 7:00 p.m.
Attendance:
Attendees included President Joe Muscarnera,
Treasurer Kathleen Hickey, and Trustees Jean Julum and Ann Beurskens.
Community Members in attendance: Don and Ann
Fisher, Stan Baber, and Scott and Kristi Thorsteinson.
Trustees excused: Vice President Toni Jilek,
Devin Graham, Justin Carlo and Tim Wilson.
Approval of December 2006 Minutes:
The December minutes were read, seconded and
approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
Kathleen Hickey reported:
1. We have earned in interest $179.10 for
December.
2. We are currently running $11,000.00 under
budget.
3. Kathleen received $300.00 from Don Fisher
for advertisements, which will show up in the January financial statement.
President’s Report
Joe Muscarnera briefly outlined the agenda. He
reported the following:
1. Speeding in Driftwood Point: Deputy
Robert Kocher will be alternating between traffic emphasis and security patrols
and will spend about 5 hours per week here now that the Holidays are over. He
will use his professional discretion in citing traffic violations, considering
the speed and conditions involved.
2. Based on last month's Board meeting where
the Board awarded cash recognition to Mark Neubauer for his community
volunteerism and the subsequent procedural questions that arose from Board
members via e-mail messages, a new committee was formed to be named the
"Volunteer/Neighbor of the Month" committee. Ann Fisher has graciously agreed
to chair the committee. Ann's first report follows below.
Volunteer/Neighbor of the Month
Ann Fisher reported the following. The mission
statement of this new committee is as follows: "The Volunteer/Neighbor of the
month is recognized for going above and beyond the normal requirements of his or
her property and/or elected position for the good of the community. He or she
is willing to take on projects and activities to benefit others. This may be in
such areas as education, health, safety and/or beautification of property. He
or she is willing to offer assistance and support of others and is recognized
for the extra time and energy he or she gives to the betterment of the whole
Community of Driftwood Point.": The owner of "Al Lago Ristorante Italiano' on
Sumner Tapps Highway was contacted by Ann to solicit a donation for the
committee to present to the person selected each the month to be
volunteer/neighbor of the month. Al Lago furnished 12 certificates for the
year. The new committee is comprised of:
Ann Fisher, Kathleen Hickey, Caren Lee and
Barbara Muscarnera.
Park Committee Report:
Jean Julum reported the following: She will
contact the contractor who removed the trees at the ball field about the large
log left behind.
Architecture Committee Report:

Communications Report:
Don Fisher reported that he would be looking into using a different masthead for
our community newsletter the "Pointer". It will be more colorful and economical
due to the volume printed. The cost for this is supported by the "Pointer's"
advertising revenue.
Entrance Refurbishment Committee
report: N/A
5 Year Plan Committee Report:
N/A
Finance Committee Report:
Kathleen reported she would convene a meeting of the Finance Committee this
Friday, January 12 to continue to work the budget.
Lake Tapps Community Council Meeting:
Don Fisher reported that there would be a meeting of the Council Wednesday,
January 8. There will be discussion on the logistics associated with a fund
raiser for legal costs that the Lake Tapps communities will incur related to the
Muckelshoot and some cities opposition to the awarding of the lake's water
rights.
Don mentioned that our lake is unusually low
due to weather related delays on repairs to some dikes. Don expects the lake
will begin filling in March and be full by April 1.
Santa Sleigh:
Toni asked Joe to convey the following information: The Santa Sleigh was well
attended and more than 200 candy canes were distributed. Two large carts were
filled with food and delivered by Toni and Bob Jilek to the Sumner Food Bank.
There were 5 winners in the Christmas
Decorating contest:

Open Discussion:
1. The Boy Scout Troop 501 Christmas tree
recycle appeared to work well. One member reported they missed her tree, but
when others were asked they reported theirs were picked up.
2. A question was asked about the status of
the Neighborhood Sign application. Joe reported that he would be submitting it
after his question to the traffic engineer is answered.
