Home Owners Association,

I have noticed several times the mention of "many" accidents at the Y entrance to Driftwood Point. I have lived on Driftwood Point almost 20 years and have never seen an accident at that entrance where the yield sign is.   Does anybody have any actual documented records of accidents at the entrance due to the Y and the Yield sign? Are any accidents on file with the police/sheriff? I have seen 2 accidents at Sumner Tapps Highway and Driftwood Point Drive. One was due to ice, (not able to stop), and the other was people turning from Sumner Tapps Highway on to Driftwood Drive. So the "many" seems to me to be an exaggeration of a problem that may not even exist. So what is the real reason you want to change the entrance of Driftwood Point?

Another thing to consider is that the home owners association does not own any land at the entrance, and if the Y with the island were to be removed we would have no land at the entrance. The land to the left and to the right of the entrance is privately owned property by members of the home owners association but nothing is owned by the association as community  property, so the removal of the island would result in the loss of our entrance sign.

I like the entrance the way it is currently designed and fear that long delays would occur if the entrance was changed to a T intersection. I  also tow trailers often and know that getting on and off of Driftwood Point  would become much more difficult and time consuming if the intersection was a T intersection. The only way to create a safer intersection with a T intersection would be to put up a light, a left hand turn lane on  Driftwood Drive, and a center turn lane on Sumner Tapps Highway. Anything short of that would only cause more accidents and problems then the simple Y entrance we have today. I think only the facts should be stated, (don't exaggerate), and we should leave what is working well alone and focus on issues that are
problems, don't work, or need to be repaired.

                                                                                  Thanks,

Changing the entrance to Driftwood Point...specifically taking out the Y would cause traffic back up's.  Right now things flow really well going in and out of Driftwood because of the Y.  If people would be responsible and yield when they are supposed to the traffic accidents would be minimal to none.  My experience is that some people do not understand how the yields work( or they just don't care).  Perhaps increasing the size of the yield signs or amount of them would help?

It would also be helpful if we could get people to pay attention to the Stop signs when pulling out onto Driftwood Drive.  I would estimate that 90% of the time when people are driving off the side roads onto Driftwood Drive I see them run the Stop signs.  Often times pulling out in front of other cars inappropriately.

The sign at the entrance is extremely helpful in instructing people how to get to Driftwood Point.  If we take that out it will be much more difficult to find.

                                                                                    Thanks!

Just a quick note.  I like the new message board for board information but I miss the board for member postings.  Is there any way the could be a board for members to post messages?
